What's the deal with Rainbow Row?
Rainbow Row is one of Charleson's most iconic and visited spots. You will see paintings, postcards, and even tank tops with the image of these cute houses. Rainbow Row is the name for the colorful houses along East Bay Street in Charleston, South Carolina. They are the longest cluster of Georgian row houses in the United States. In 1778, a fire destroyed most of the neighborhood on the Charleston peninsula except the few houses known today as Rainbow Row. In the 1930’s and 1940’s, the houses were restored and painted in pastel colors inspired by Charleston's Caribbean roots.
